Welcome to this Malaysian birds gallery.
The Malaysian bird photos here are just a small collection out of the more than 740 bird species found in the country. And this gallery includes the residents as well as migrant and migratory birds that come here during some seasons.
I hope you will appreciate the variety, color and beauty of the birds of Malaysia.
My First Bird
The first bird you see depicted in this gallery is the white-throated kingfisher. It's first because this was the bird specie that started me into bird-watching. That was about five years ago.
Well, I was casually driving in a wooded area when I saw a beautiful bird with bluish wings flying among the trees. I had a small digital point and shoot camera with me at the time, and when it landed on a branch nearby, I snapped it.
But because I didn't know what bird it was (except that it's beautiful), I browsed a small pictorial pocket guide on Malaysian birds to know its identity.
And it was then, when sifting through the guide-book, that I became amazed at the variety and beauty of the birds that can be found in the country.
That event, I must say, started my bird-watching activity, a pastime that eventually made me buy a digital SLR camera and a slightly longer lens to capture the beautiful birds of Malaysia.
From one bird, it has since become a great passion to catch photos of more Malaysian birds. Hehe, I've become one of those birdnuts!

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them: and He has Power to gather them together when He wills. There is not an animal (that lives) on the earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but (forms part of) communities like you. And God has created every animal from water: of them there are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. God creates what He wills for verily God has power over all things.
